Paul is the Founder and President of Novus Public Affairs.  Paul brings to the company a national reputation earned by more than thirty years’ experience in business, government, and politics at the highest levels.

Paul is respected for his expertise in building winning coalitions and positive public images for both the public and private sectors.  His achievements include creative public relations campaigns for Fortune 500 companies, leading business and trade organizations, and global not-for-profit institutions.  Paul began his career as a United States Senate aide where he founded the Congressional Task Force on Afghanistan, helping the resistance movement defeat the Soviet empire.  He has served as a strategic advisor to five presidential candidates and numerous congressional candidates.  A proven entrepreneur, Paul has founded and grew six successful companies.

Paul is a strategic advisor to the company promoting the overall business structure, operations, and functionality of the business. He is responsible for global strategy and sales lead generation.

What was your first job?
I started mowing lawns when I was 11 years old, and through my teen years I had a variety of jobs including working as a dishwasher, grocery store stock boy, highway department laborer and even loaded underwater cable onto ships when I was in college.  My first professional job paid me $11,000 a year working as a Legislative Correspondent in the U.S. Senate at the age of 20.

What professional accomplishment are you proudest of?
Being a successful entrepreneur.  If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.  I have started up six companies in my lifetime and each has been successful.

If you had to choose a different career, what would it be?
Professional baseball player, but unfortunately my fastball was never as good as my curveball.

Patrick Hynes

Patrick is a Partner of Novus Public Affairs as well as the President of Hynes Communications.  For more than twenty years, Patrick has been creating powerful communications and advocacy campaigns for corporate, association, government, and political clients. His ability to identify central themes and messages helps Novus’ client messages stand out in the crowded public arena.

A recognized expert in online communication, Patrick is a frequent speaker and panelist on the topic. He has addressed Harvard Business School, the Museum of Television and Radio, the Robert J. Dole Institute of American Politics at the University of Kansas and the Public Affairs Council on the power of social media as a communications vehicle.

Patrick is also a well-known political operative. He was an advisor to Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.  He also served on many national campaigns including former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty’s Freedom First PAC and Senator John McCain’s 2008 campaign for president. Patrick’s other client work includes Fortune 500 firms and many of the largest industry associations in Washington, D.C.

Patrick is the author of the book In Defense of the Religious Right (Nelson Current).  His other writings have been published in the Financial Times, USA Today, the New York Post, The American Spectator, the Daily Caller, the Washington Times, and Politico, among other venues.

Brennan Ward

Vice President


Brennan offers Novus Public Affairs a local and national perspective on public affairs and communications. Brennan hails from a well-known New Hampshire political family, and has put his knowledge of the state to work assisting clients with their public outreach and advocacy programs. In 2012, Brennan orchestrated a voter contact program, which was recognized as the most aggressive and comprehensive campaign undertaken by the Republican Party in the important First-in-the-Nation Presidential Primary state.

Nationally, Brennan has implemented successful public outreach campaigns in the Mid-Atlantic and Mid-West regions of the country and has taught communication, outreach strategy, and tactics throughout the country while working at the Leadership Institute.

Brennan develops strategy and tactics that fit each of Novus client’s needs. This includes identifying and mobilizing grassroots support; generating coalitions; and leveraging network relationships around the state. He holds a BA degree in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s degree from George Washington University’s School of Political Management.

Chief Operating Officer

 


Angela is the Chief Operating Officer for Novus Public Affairs where she uses her high-level ability to think creatively and to plan strategically to lead the business in meeting its growth goals. Her in-depth understanding of the financial aspects of the small business climate and advanced-level practice area expertise has helped Novus succeed.  Sought after for her ability to develop and evaluate top-line strategy, she has successfully served in this capacity for several companies-large and small.

A respected leadership professional and graduate of Leadership Seacoast, she was recently elected to serve as Chairwoman of the organization’s board of directors. Selected because of her extensive management expertise, she will oversee all governance issues and assist the organization in improving its performance, recruiting, and strategic planning.

Angela oversees Novus’ finances, administration, and client workflow of the company and is responsible for developing internal and external operating strategies, assuming responsibility for the good standing of the Company, and continually improving the firm’s infrastructure.

What was your first job?
Like many college kids, my first job was a bartender on campus. I quickly learned cash is king. After graduating college, I took my business degree and bartending acumen to the real world and worked in the accounting department of a family-owned business. Another insightful position.

What professional accomplishment are you proudest of?
Leading small businesses into making smart decisions based on sound strategy. I am also proud of the internship and mentoring programs I have developed, supervised, and managed over the years.

If you had to choose a different career, what would it be?
Not sure I’d pick another line of work. Working in a small business climate provides such diversity –manager, executer, strategizer—it is different each hour of the day.
